Alloy 600 features a face-centered cubic structure and is a stable, austenitic solid-solution alloy with excellent high-temperature performance.
Alloy 600 Characteristics
Exceptional corrosion resistance to reducing, oxidizing, and nitriding media;
Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking, even at elevated temperatures;
Excellent resistance to high-temperature corrosion in dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride environments.
Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 600 offers superior corrosion resistance to a wide range of corrosive media. The chromium content enhances its resistance to oxidation, surpassing commercially pure nickel, while the high nickel content ensures excellent performance under reducing conditions. The nickel also provides outstanding resistance to alkaline solutions.
The alloy shows moderate resistance to strongly oxidizing acid solutions. However, the oxidizing effect of dissolved air alone is not sufficient to ensure complete passivity and protection against attack by air-saturated mineral acids and certain concentrated organic acids.

Pressurized-water reactor steam-generator tubes;
Heat exchangers for sodium hydroxide;
Components used in the manufacture of photographic materials and film processing;
Oxychlorinator internals in vinyl chloride production;
Strips for flight recorders.
